MobiLysis Uses DroneBundle to Coordinate Drone Operations for Helsinki Traffic Management Project

Managing Complex Multi-Location Drone Operations for Urban Mobility Research

Drone operations in urban environment

Overview

MobiLysis, a Swiss company offering mobility solutions powered by drone data, participated in a Traffic Management project in Helsinki's West Harbor area. The initiative, led by Forum Virium Helsinki and the City of Helsinki, aimed to collect real-world traffic data using drones to feed AI-driven simulations for improving urban mobility and reducing congestion. To manage complex field operations across multiple sites, MobiLysis relied on DroneBundle to coordinate pilots, flights, and reporting through a single, unified platform.

Challenge

The project involved six drone pilots operating across seven different locations in Helsinki's West Harbor area. Conducting numerous flights over a short period presented several challenges:

  • Coordinating multiple pilots and flight areas simultaneously

  • Maintaining visibility into equipment and mission readiness

  • Handling unpredictable weather conditions that could impact flight schedules

  • Managing data integrity and compliance for all flight logs

Solution

Using DroneBundle, MobiLysis achieved full operational control and efficiency throughout the project:

  • Comprehensive project overview: MobiLysis had a live view of pilots, drones, equipment, and assigned jobs through the platform dashboard.

  • Efficient coordination: The Operations Lead could assign specific jobs to pilots, ensuring clarity on responsibilities and timing.

  • Streamlined reporting: Pilots uploaded 200 flight logs directly into the platform after each mission, giving the team instant access to verified data.

  • Flight planning under weather constraints: Given that weather conditions during the project week were not ideal, DroneBundle's built-in weather forecasting tool proved crucial. It allowed the team to plan flight operations around suitable windows, minimizing delays and maximizing flight safety.

  • Full transparency for stakeholders: Project managers and partners were able to easily review flights, monitor total flight times, and download logs for analysis.

Results

Through DroneBundle, MobiLysis successfully managed a complex, multi-location drone operation despite challenging weather conditions. The platform provided a clear, reliable structure for assigning jobs, monitoring progress, and collecting flight data, resulting in a smooth and efficient project delivery that supported the wider AI-driven traffic analysis initiative.

"DroneBundle helped us keep the entire operation organized, even with six pilots working across several sites in difficult weather conditions. The in-built weather forecasting and flight planning tools made it easy to schedule flights at the right time, while our pilots could quickly upload their logs for instant review. Everything ran smoothly, and our stakeholders had complete visibility into every flight."
